We believe that all these sites have been terminated by Paypal in the last week. We do not believe any of them may process through Paypal again, however Paypal always deals with these matters on a case by case basis.

NOTES Copy Control does not claim responsibility for these or any other Paypal terminations. Many organisations work to deal with infringing sites. Some of these sites may have been reported earlier then re-reported as they continued to process with Paypal. This information is current at the time of publication and is subject to change.

HenchFile.com: Who comes up with these names anyway ?

HenchFile.com are a brand new file locker who attract up-loaders with promises of high Pay Per Download rates and generous daily payments.

HenchFile.com may be new but as we know all too well at Stop File Lockers, these sites gain traction very quickly unless we nip them in the bud. Our plan for HenchFile.com is to do precisely that, to stop them before they gain a foothold in the piracy industry.

HenchFileFrontPage

HenchFile make the curious claim that Paypal have endorsed them. When questioned about how long they can keep operating using Paypal they replied “Indefinitely. We’ve already been in contact with PayPal’s legal team and they’re cooperating with us.”. We think this is curious as they have also stated clearly that pornography is allowed at HenchFile.com.

UPDATE: 26th July 2012 Shortly after posting we rechecked HenchFile.com and found that Paypal appears to have been shut down.

UPDATE: 27th July 2012 Andrew Storey, owner of HenchFile.com made a legal threat we thought we’d share.

From: Andrew Storey
Subject: Removal of post

Message Body:
Hi

As we have identified, HenchFile.com is not a typical “file locker”. We are responsible and act in accordance with the law and always respond to the legitimate concerns of copyright owners. In addition we do not only provider regular file storage but also backup storage for web hosting companies.

Please can I therefore request that the article is removed?

In addition it is worth noting that we host vast amounts of personal and business files for people globally who are now unable to pay for premium access due to the report you filed with PayPal which is stipulated in the article. We reward our legitimate users via this method to promote them using our service as an added benefit.
We actively check all payouts for users BEFORE they’re made to ensure they’re not hosting any copyrighted material or files that contravene our ToS.

My lawyers may be in touch with regards to damages relating to loss of business due to the aforementioned.

Ergo, I trust that we can come to an amicable agreement and I therefore expect a swift response.

Kind regards

UPDATE: 3rd August 2012 HenchFile face more difficulty.

“This is a courtesy an email to make you aware of the progress we are making with the essential maintenance being carried out.

Unfortunately our primarily file server has suffered catastrophic hard drive failures involving multiple drives. We are working to try and recover any and all data however this cannot be guaranteed. RAID is in place on this server but due to the amount of issues the data may not be recoverable.

We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause, we will endeavour to restore services as quickly as possible and provide a further update as we get it.

Many thanks for your continued patience.

Kind regards
HenchFile”

Netload: The Revolving Door of Piracy

Netload are one of the larger file hosts around. In fact we think they’re starting to fill the gap that will be left when Oron faces it’s eventual demise. To a casual observer Netload may appear to be a file host which responds to DMCA requests, takes down infringing content, filters content for keywords and so on. However the truth is that Netload makes money from repeat copyright infringements on it’s service.

Netload can afford to take files down on receipt of a DMCA notice as it well knows there will be one hundred more infringing files to replace each one they remove. Netload has structured it’s service in such a way that up-loaders will continue uploading and Netload will continue profiting on the backs of the hard work of copyright holders. Netload has all the classic features of the File Locker services that we are working to shut down.

Netloadfrontpage

Netload makes it very clear that the best way to use Netload services is to become a premium member. Premium memberships are the lifeblood of an operation like Netload, without them they could not afford to operate.

SharpFile.com: Not so sharp now.

SharpFile.com is one of a new breed of file host who believe that they are impervious to the blunt trauma that is inflicted upon such a site when they lose all forms of payment processing. Make no mistake about it, SharpFile.com is a home to pirate games, software, Hollywood movies and even Porn (which is against SharpFile’s TOS but happily resides there anyway).

SharpFile.com do not appear to be mitigating the heavy flow of pirate content onto their servers, in fact they encourage it by offering up to $40 per 1000 downloads. SharpFile.com has one purpose, to be a repository for stolen content and to profit from it at the expense of rights holders.

SharpFile

We investigated SharpFile.com thoroughly over a two week period. Over that time we saw infringements followed by repeat infringements. SharpFile do nothing to mitigate piracy.

UPDATE: 22nd July 2012 SharpFile have now lost their MoneyBookers payment option and currently have no premium payment options. We will ensure this site is kept under active review and act immediately if another payment processor is added.

MyDownloader: The back alley into illegal filelockers.

In our quest to remove payment processing from illegal file lockers we often come across sites we call “Enabling Services”. These sites are not file lockers in their own right, but services which allow you to make use of a file locker in a myriad of ways.

One such site is MyDownloader.net. At first glance it looks like a slick and highly professional service, nothing about it seems nefarious. However peek beneath the smooth veneer and you find a perfect example of an “Enabling Service”.

Before we delve into the dark realms of MyDownloader we first need to visit another web site, this is also another kind of enabling service in the form of a directory of illegal downloads. DirtyWarez.com is the aptly names directory listing of all the pirate software, movies, music, porn, tv shows, games and Ebooks that you care to download.

Dirtywarezfrontpage

If you look closely at the screen capture you will see one small single ad for MYDOWNLOADER in the right hand column of the site. This is the pathway to one source of finance for the DirtyWarez.com site.

Update:24th July 2012 MyDownloader have lost their Paypal processing. This usually means funds are frozen for 180 days, no withdrawals or transfers are possible.

FileMates Part III: The Sell Off.

FileMates.com have been looked at extensively on this blog. In fact when we first looked at them they were happily hosting pirate movies, software, pornography and music. As with so many of our targets they promptly lost Paypal payment processing and then they rose from the ashes like a Phoenix, so we took a second look at the site.

UPDATE: April 21, 2013: FileMates has been shut down by their hosting provider.

ping ns235194.ovh.net
PING ns235194.ovh.net (178.33.122.17): 56 data bytes
Request timeout for icmp_seq 0
Request timeout for icmp_seq 1
Request timeout for icmp_seq 2
Request timeout for icmp_seq 3
Request timeout for icmp_seq 4

File Mates have burned through all of their available options for processing payments. They simply do not have any other option than to cash out on the site and the sum they are seeking is a whopping $60,000.

File Mates claim that “We started on march with 9000 income and we reached on June 38000″ they then go on to say “These prices are in EUROS… so above you see estimated dollars amount!”

It seems crime has been paying for these commercial copyright thieves. However now, without payment processing options, they are forced to try and sell the site. All this while affiliates and uploaders are crying about not being paid by the site.
