BoltSharing.com – A Way Station for Piracy

by Editor on September 25, 2012

Bolt Sharing represents everything that is bad about the file locker industry. A site established to do nothing other than rip off content and software producers by stealing then sharing copyright infringing files.

Most people have not heard of this site, it doesn’t jump into ones mind as a legitimate place to go and store files, however the hardcore pirates know it and they use it nefariously as a way station of theft.

The front page looks unassuming and provides no indication of the massive scale theft taking place on BoltSharing’s servers.

The fact is that BoltSharing carries terabytes of copyright infringement, there’s virtually nothing else. Every file infringes copyright, every dollar transacted as an uploader earning money per download or as a downloader paying to download content is tainted.

Read on for more about BoltSharing.

Like many file lockers we have investigated BoltSharing has an affiliate program to pay up-loaders of copyright infringing content.

BoltSharing pays up to $15 per 1000 downloads, a nice incentive to upload lots of infringing content. Popular content does the best, games, movies, popular software titles.

It seems to us that the incentive has worked as looking within folders of the BoltSharing servers we see no end to infringement.

We extensively surveyed BoltSharing.com and found thousands of items of infringing content amounting to many terabytes of data.

Today, coinciding with this article, our report to Paypal has resulted in BoltSharing being deprived of payment processing. We’re going to make sure it stays that way by keeping a close eye on this site until it’s shut down.

Good job. Do you know how these guys advertise their program, i.e., how did they come up on your radar?

Must say I’d be interested to see what a report to paypal looks like.

“We extensively surveyed BoltSharing.com and found thousands of items of infringing content amounting to many terabytes of data.”

Ok so then Im assuming you followed the guidelines set forth on their page to report the issue?

Oh wait, you can’t due to-

1. Identify yourself as an owner of the copyrighted work or exclusive rights that you believe were infringed, or a person acting on behalf of such owner.

Copy Control can, in fact, do this as Copy Control is representative of many rights holders.

We’re happy to have debate on this blog however we will step in when ill informed or simply wrong information is posted by commenters.

I have no issues with debate at all. I feel if I can’t debate from my stand point, then I’d simply be wrong. And let me say this, I feel hard work should be rewarded.

Now,,,,you didn’t really answer the question. Did you follow the accepted protocol when issuing a complaint?

And you’re also legally acting on behalf of ALL of the owners’ “thousands of items of infringing content “?

You still failed to answer his question….Aren’t you over stepping your bounds when you are obviously not acting as legal counsel on behalf of aforementioned content owners. . I remember you mentioning/complaining about Word being on a hosting site.
So, Microsoft has employed you and your services to act as legal counsel on their behalf?
Because if they didn’t, then it is easily arguable that you’re over stepping your bounds and not following accepted protocol set forth by the DCMA.

Oh and keep deleting my reply’s and I’ll just code a bot that auto posts all over your little site. It would really be very easy with the lack of captcha challenge or even a login requirement. Not trying to be a jerk. I just want you to be fair sir.
Cheers :)
