UltraMegaBit: Piracy outfit to be shut down

by Editor on April 4, 2013

UltraMegaBit.com is a criminal copyright infringement conspiracy designed to deprive rights holders of income by making copyright material available in an unlawful manner.

UltraMegaBit.com has been featured before on this site. The first time was last year when we labeled UltraMegaBit the new pirate cove. The second and third time were when we explored vast amounts of copyright infringement taking place on the site.

Lumfile. Worst of the worst.

by Editor on April 2, 2013

Lumfile.com is a file locker that has been on our radar for many months. We have taken various mitigation actions against Lumfile over the past nine months. Unfortunately, the site remains a problem however it’s a problem we are determined to resolve.

Last year Lumfile lost it’s hosting in Canada due to the prevalence of illegal content on the site, then in November 2012 the site was one of many terminated by payment processor Avangate. Now the site uses alternative methods of payment processing and routinely ignores DMCA notices issued to it.

Hotfile terminated by Paypal.

by Editor on January 21, 2013

Today Paypal took action to terminate it’s relationship with Hotfile.

Hotfile is one of the largest sites on the Internet. A site which has attracted criticism from numerous anti-piracy groups, rights holder associations and rights holders. Having been embroiled in litigation over allegations it encouraged and facilitated copyright infringement it should have expected this day to come.

Hotfilehome

Unfortunately it is too often the case that where we find a blatant disregard of copyrights we also find a blatant disregard of human rights.

Recently a young woman was raped in the presence of her partner on a bus in India, a crime which took the life of an innocent victim. The case sent shockwaves around the world as it was noted for it’s savagery and ferociousness. At the same time as the world condemned the mistreatment of women, Hotfile was busy allowing people to share content purporting to depict rape, torture, incest and bestiality.

While the MPAA was taking Hotfile to task for breaches of copyright, we took a holistic view of the systemic problems with the Hotfile service. After substantial examination and research we came up with one simple conclusion. Hotfile is a haven for the sharing of copyright and illegal content.

Paypal took the appropriate action against Hotfile and we would encourage any other payment processor considering doing business with this site to think twice before allowing Hotfile to continue.

Crocko.com lose Paypal. Resellers to follow.

by Editor on January 3, 2013

As a great start to the new year, Crocko.com lost their Paypal payment processing.

Crocko has been a high profile distributor of illegal and copyright infringing content and as a result, there was no other outcome possible than for the site to lose Paypal payment processing.

Crocko com

Now that we have successfully restricted the ability of Crocko to accept payments we will begin working on shutting down payment processing options at all Crocko.com resellers.

As time goes forward we will keep putting pressure on Crocko until such time as this illegitimate business fails.

In our last post we detailed the mirky world of UltraMegaBit, which offers access to large amounts of copyright infringing content. Since the post was published, UltraMegaBit.com have disabled access to the links of files mentioned in the post. Files on UltraMegaBit aren’t accessed directly, they are accessed through a generated link, which means that there is no way for a third party observer to know if files are actually deleted or not.

Today we have more of our evidence to reveal, which shows a systemic and deliberate pattern of infringement. It’s possible for uploaders to set files to be made available to premium members only. With the Pay Per Download affiliate model, there is clear incentive for uploaders to share popular commercial content. Despite having examined links to thousands of files, we have not found one single example of a content producer, artist, publisher or rights holder using UltraMegaBit to monetize their own content.

Let’s examine today’s infringements:

SharpFile.com: Not so sharp now.

by Editor on July 22, 2012

SharpFile.com is one of a new breed of file host who believe that they are impervious to the blunt trauma that is inflicted upon such a site when they lose all forms of payment processing. Make no mistake about it, SharpFile.com is a home to pirate games, software, Hollywood movies and even Porn (which is against SharpFile’s TOS but happily resides there anyway).

SharpFile.com do not appear to be mitigating the heavy flow of pirate content onto their servers, in fact they encourage it by offering up to $40 per 1000 downloads. SharpFile.com has one purpose, to be a repository for stolen content and to profit from it at the expense of rights holders.

SharpFile

We investigated SharpFile.com thoroughly over a two week period. Over that time we saw infringements followed by repeat infringements. SharpFile do nothing to mitigate piracy.

UPDATE: 22nd July 2012 SharpFile have now lost their MoneyBookers payment option and currently have no premium payment options. We will ensure this site is kept under active review and act immediately if another payment processor is added.

BitShare.com is a bit too suspect for our liking. We did a bit of digging around into Bitshare and we came up with quite a bit of disturbing evidence.

BitShare.com, like many file locker sites offer members incentives to upload. This means they host quite a bit of popular content such as Hollywood Movies, TV Shows, Stolen Pornography, Pirate Software and even extreme Child Pornography.

BitShare

In recent times they have been making statements for public consumption such as “we will ban uploaders of porn” or “we will ban uploaders of copyright files”. However these statements are simply obfuscating the fact that they reward uploaders of illicit content every day.

Read on a “bit” (ok sorry we’ll stop that now!) to see what we found out about BitShare
