Huge Paypal Takedown of File Lockers

by Editor on July 9, 2012

We have compiled a massive list of Paypal takedowns against File Locker sites that can be announced. This is a preliminary article, we will report more in-depth shortly.

We believe the following sites have had their relationships terminated by Paypal. With Paypal terminations it’s common practice for funds to be frozen for 180 days, no withdrawals or transfers of funds allowed.

The following sites lost Paypal payment processing on 9th July 2012.

DepositFiles.com

Uploading.com

mediafire.com

CramIt.in

imgchili.com

filedefend.com

filegag.com

letitbit.net

hitfile.net

easy-share.com

filestay.com

pigsonic.com

filerose.com

All these sites have been terminated by Paypal in the last few hours. We do not believe any of them may process through Paypal again, however Paypal always deals with these matters on a case by case basis.

UPDATE 11th July 2012 It seems that half the sites above are now processing payments through Paypal in one form or another. We will be in contact with Paypal to have as many of these shut down as quickly as possible. Many of these sites had backup accounts on ice and it just goes to show how little respect the operators of these sites have for the rules when they deliberately circumvent Paypal terminations.

Thank you for bringing the freedom to the internet. The freedom to create and not to be raped by thieves, the freedom to have property and making your own decisions on how to use it, the freedom to express yourself and being able to earn money to fund your new works. Thank you from the whole lot of small and medium sized independent content creators who can now enjoy their freedom of speech and freedom to enrich our culture, backed by the financial freedom to live of off the income their own work produces.

And also thank you for the freedom to keep our children safe from abuse by sick perverts praying on them to satisfy the ever growing demand for more photos and videos, fueled by illegal filehosts, their uncontrollable uploads and affiliate programs paying for downloads.

Thank you once again, and keep up your amazing and very important work.

Do not worry, they also sell your children to porn and all the dirt network, but much more expensive! Net Internet – expensive internet, all the same, but very expensive! I do not understand your joy?

Santa July 9, 2012 at 11:37 pm

your trying to cut off the funds, because you know yourswlf that that is the only way.
if everything that you say would be true, why not sueing the filhesting sites??

here the answer: you know that you would FAIL, because their services are absolutely
legal

Reply

Guldo July 10, 2012 at 12:53 am

If they were legal, why is Paypal shutting them down?

Reply

Cap July 10, 2012 at 1:11 am

Because of porn stored on these sites. It’s legal but not for PayPal

Reply

michael July 12, 2012 at 4:35 am

porn is not free. its the same thing like you are sharing newest movie or mp3 album..

Reply

Filepost is not filelocker, they are backup site

Reply

Guest July 10, 2012 at 4:43 am

Are you retarded? Or personally connected to Filepost? It’s beyond obvious Filepost is a file locker. They require you to register to upload files. They sell premium subscriptions. They operate much like any other file locker, and the technical system they use is IDENTICAL to the one used on Uploading.com.

Reply

JJ July 10, 2012 at 3:23 pm

Yes, they are a flie locker as well, but I think that they are not that bad, at least I think there are dozens of bigger and smaller file lockers that are much worse.

Reply

Guest July 10, 2012 at 8:01 pm

They are as bad as, if not worse than, the next file locker. There’s rumors that they have a hidden affiliate program for some of the top earning/oldest affiliates of theirs and so on.

Reply

Camelot July 11, 2012 at 1:01 am

They most certainly do have an affiliate program, because I still see lots of filepost links and those posters will not even piss unless they were paid to do that.

And they’re also a required hoster at several big piracy sites such as awaxhome, meaning that every post there should have either filepost link or or a mirror in it. Obviously, warez sites’ admins are not doing it for free for filepost – pirates are not known to run a charity.

I think that you misunderstood how the internet works.

If I upload something illegal to someone’s server, who is the guilty one ? Me or server owner ? If you are the owner of that material, you send them an mail and they delete it.

In front of your sight, if someone upload a hollywood movie to hotmail server, then we should shutdown hotmail.

It’ impracticable.

Reply

Camelot July 11, 2012 at 12:55 am

If those hotmail links to stolen hollywood movies will be posted at thousands of piracy blogs and forums, than they surely need to be shut down. But you do not see hotmail links anywhere at warez-bb, right? Because they react quickly and ban any one who’s trying to abuse their system and use it for large scale and systematic copyright infringements. That’s what an ISP should do as per DMCA, that’s why mr. King is not after Hotmail. But he’s after file lockers who do exactly the opposite to what is required of them by law, and provide pirates with the safe haven to post their infringing files to, and to earn illegal income from.

File locker is just like hosting site.

So if anything illegal, you just report to them.

If they fail to remove illegal files, then you should do next.

It is not fair to shutdown payment processor without notice.

Reply

Camelot July 11, 2012 at 12:48 am

There are at least 5 conditions that an ISP have to meet to qualify to recieve “safe harbor”. Removing illegal files when reported is only one of them, there are others that are equally of not more important. That’s per DMCA.

And there are also VISA/MC regs that have even more conditions that need to be met in order to qualify for merchant status. Much more of them.

To meet both set of conditions, file lockers should act proactively to make sure their sites are clean of illegal files, and not simply sit and wait until somebody will notify them what to remove.

Reply

omni July 20, 2012 at 1:40 pm

you do realize that every one of those sites also has legit content right?
i personally have stored pictures from vacations my resume documents i personally wrote videos i took with my webcam etc to file lockers…..if you expect ANY filehoster to check every single file manually as its posted that is simply ridiculous even if they had a db of names of pirated content (names of games movies etc) that auto deleted and banned anyone uploading them it still wouldnt work (theyd replace letters with numbers and us abbreviations) expecting a filehoster to check every bit of content as its uploaded and delete and remove it and ban the uploader before even recieving a take down notice is just as ridiculous as expecting a cop to know of a crime before it was reported and arrest the offender before he actually committed the crime…or expecting an owner of a forum to read every post thats made on the entire site and immediately delete any posts that break the site rules before they are even reported by other users etc its just as ridiculous as trying to shut down every shop that sells second hand goods so that they have to go back to the source and pay full price…..

How’s the Collective going ?

Reply

Jen July 23, 2012 at 12:38 pm

omni, they don’t have to “check” every file, guess what, now there’s technology that can do just that. Trouble is, their business depends on illegal uploads (not the legal stuff) and so it would destroy their viability were they to actually check content.

I sort of love your outrage at the idea that the filehoster would have to “check every single file.” What do you think the artists whose songs are uploaded at these filelocker sites have to do????

Sorry, but whining on behalf of those making bucks of theft seems a bit misdirected. How ’bout showing some sympathy to the artists whose work is ripped off instead?

So what !!! December 17, 2012 at 11:18 pm

Why do you care about trying to save the mass media when the mass media itself is more corrupt than the pirates who try to download it ? 75% of the worlds music, film and TV is all owned by three fascist companies that will rot the brains on the ignorant and naive. Murdoch is more powerful than any world leader…. Burlosconi is nearly as bad. ALL of these companies are monopolies that are profeiteering and price fixing. What is it exactly thar you are trying to save ?

Reply

AmonRixta December 28, 2012 at 7:53 pm

Those who go around ‘policing’ the net on some self appointed ‘internet watch’ crusade, thinking they are improving the world are living a pipe dream. Surveys have shown that ‘piracy’ is largely a form of marketing that increases sales rather than decreases them. Reviews on pirated movies drive sales of higher quality DVDs and Blu-ray versions, the helpfulness of pirated software titles passes by word of mouth to those who would pay for them either because they are in a work environment or because they need the support. The idea that ‘pirates’ would open their (often empty) wallets if they couldn’t get it for free is a nonsense fallacy. Run a search on “piracy is marketing and increases sales”, and read some of the many instances where this trend has been proven. Not that you should ‘have to’, it should be obvious to someone with the ability to think about it. All the creators of this site are doing is dumbing-down the world they live in, as modern IT has provided a wonderful education boost to the entire globe, even in those places where the average per capita income would NEVER allow them to pay western prices. Developers are NOT losing money, but they ARE providing a service to many more happy people … through so called ‘piracy’. Wake up guys! Haven’t you got something more useful to do? Amon

Reply

Rick O'Shea December 28, 2012 at 9:28 pm

AmonRixta trotting out the usual nonsense…take a bow for being such a fuckwit Amon

What is it with pirates and their studies or surveys anyway?

Anyone can do a ‘survey’ or a ‘study’ and skew results according to their dogma. Just look at Torrent Freak where every comment on every ‘news piece’ spouts the same crap and proclaims it as ‘proof’.

It’s like a bunch of religious zealots shouting “the devil is coming for you” or “God hates fags” at passers by. The only difference is the ranting at TF and sometimes here consists of “MAFFIA is evil” and “you can’t stop progress” etc etc

Who the fuck are you to call wholesale theft ‘progress’?

Progress is people standing up for their rights, not cyberlocker owners getting rich off the back of someone else’s work.

So..my survey of pirates and those who defend cyberlocker owners reveals that 99.99% of them are assholes…..oh, hang on, that’s a fact.

Reply

AmonRixta January 5, 2013 at 1:28 am

LOL. The difference is … you’re quoting YOURSELF. Self important little dweeb! I’ll bet you were a ‘hall monitor’ at school. You don’t believe in statistics, Rick? The point, and you can confirm it for yourself if you have the courage to actually Google the string I mentioned, is that as surprising as it might be, some developers have found that uploading their own products to ‘piracy lockers’ … increased sales! And when you think about it, it makes sense. Word of mouth is a powerful advertising medium. Swear all you like, it isn’t impressive.
