Mega: Hypocrisy, Piracy and Porn

In a recently released report, focussing on the partnership between credit card companies and file lockers, Mega was named as one of the worst piracy sites in the world. In response, and showing the sheer arrogance of Kim Dotcom, Mega have decided to sue Netnames for defamation.

MEGA

We have been studying Mega since it first opened and we noticed piracy taking place on the site from the very beginning. Now 18 months on, the amount of piracy taking place on Mega is staggering, despite Mega not appearing to have pay per download program for uploaders.

Pirates monetise piracy taking place on Mega using ad networks that display an ad before redirecting users to pirated content. Such ad networks include adf.ly which displays an interstatial ad that cannot be bypassed before redirecting the user to the content being linked to.

Mega is a haven for piracy. Out of the top twenty sites (by number of links to Mega) most of them link to pirated content hosted on Mega.

Keep2Share – Pirated Movies Software and TV Shows

Like many of the file lockers we have looked at, Keep2Share profits from the sale of pirated content which they pay people to upload via their affiliate program. Keep2Share is about as bad as MegaUpload was when it was shut down.

K2sfrontpage

Keep2Share have put a lot of work into recruiting uploaders of pornography – obviously with the mistaken belief that this will keep them out of trouble – however they also are heavily involved in the piracy of software, movies and tv programs

They charge people who want to download pirated content a membership fee using several payment methods including Mastercard and Visa.

We shall be working hard to shut down all reseller arrangements for Kim Dotcom and Mega.

There is a very good reason Mega uses resellers, it’s because no payment processing company would directly work with Kim Dotcom after the MegaUpload case. Resellers of Kim Dotcom’s new service are taking a risk in providing him with payment processing as they themselves may find their payment processing arrangements shut down.
